Case 2-2 is about the new system of Computerizing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in South Africa. This project's goals are improve communication ,cut diplomats travel costs in half. it began in 1994, and between 1999 to 2002 government invested $650,000. However, it was failed. the users didn't like this system. Nobody wants a big change. we have two solutions-first,
change the scope of the goal, and second, raise capital. For example, raise funds through central bank or from the IMF as well as the World Bank. If we fail to plan adequately, we plan to fail big time.When performance is measured, performance improves. after the group project, we had a Cross Functional Systems Exercise with classmates.

Case 2-2 is about "Computerizing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in South Africa."
Purpose of the Project is that it doesn’t highlight specific needs or ways to accomplish their goal
and purpose could have been restated to specify ways to accomplish goals.
And, people's resistance stronger than Motivation so, it was failures to reduce travel cost.
Nobody wants a big change at one time. The system should be changed gradually and comfortably.

Today, we discussed about ch.7-Competitive Advantage with IS within Organization. The teacher talked about inbound and outbound with some examples, and value and margin(profit).
We learned what inbound Logistis, Operstions, outbound logistics, marketing&sales, and service are . And, we focused on the individual functional system, so I could understand developing system.

Through the grouo presentation, I was able to learn what ASN company provides and how the company works, also I learned how this ASN system effect to other part. This is very innovated and convenient system. They showed us the Youtube video for the system.

In class, we also discussed about MS Access.

I was able to learn from this case about how important to gather datas. Through gathering the datas, ASN company provide up-to date, complete, and reliable information about airliner's accidents and safety issues. This is very innovated and convenient system. And, people can check the a lot of information about the airliner.

10/19 class review

Today, we talked about our midterm. The instructor gave us example problems. And, we also talked about ISA exam. I'm not business or IS major, so I don't know about IS. However, I will do my best. We learned a database. The instructor asked some questions. I was able to think why a database is important and how we are using it. Actually, a database is used all around.

I am going to use a database when I have many datas, and important datas to keep for a long time. Because a database system can organize datas more effectively than just a speadsheet. Also, a database can keep datas more specificly. A speadsheet can use very easily, so I will use a spreadsheet to keep simple datas.
For these purpose, I am going to hire someone when I have a lot of important datas.

Career Assignment # 5
My major is design, so I searched "database for design." However, I found a few results about it. Database for design relates with some parts-marketing, art, or elements of art. In most cases, people's current applications are used to start building their database. For example, if someone's price list is in a spreadsheet (Excel), and his invoices and client reports are in a word processor (Word), and his order forms are on paper--these various applications are converted and put in his new database. So, people who use a database for design will have benefit by having all the tools needed to run the business in one place without having to jump from place to place--saving time and money.

Ch.6 Review

Chapter 6 is about data communications-computer network. First, we learned about a communication with some tools. We colud write down out messase and give them each other. Then, we learned about a modem. Modems are the great tools for communicatind each other, but they were slow. People discovered internet.
Through this lesson, I could learn what a data communication is, and hoe it works.

Ch.6 preview

Chapter 6 is about data communications-computer network. Network is a collection of computers and communicate with one another over transmission line. For example, there are LAN (Local Area Network ), WAN(Wide Area Network ), and internet. And, it talks bout modems. Lastly, it talks about a computer security system- Firewall and VPN(Virtual private network).

Because of this chapter, I was able to understand about computer networking system and modems. There are many kinds of modems. Also, I could realize why my computer is protected by other programs, how I can protect my computer.

Ch.5 Review

Today's topic is database.
We discussed about when we use a DB instead of a spreadsheet.
We use a DB when we organize datas and focus view on specific information.
We also use a spreadsheet for simple data.
We learned about a DB with relationships and metadata.

Ch.5 preview

This chapter is about Database. Fisrt of all, I didn't know about Database. So, I was able to concentrate on this chapter. In this cahpter, I could learn what DBMS is, and its purpose. And, how is the difference between a enterprise DBMS and a personal DBMS? I couldn't understand well, so I have to focus on our lecture.

Monday class response

We learned about 'Principle of competitive advantage.'
-Hardware can chagng and it is sufficient.
I also understand these meanings that CPU and RAM.
I was able to learn computer's work-Input-Process-Output.

I was little confused because our class was passed fastly(because of quizz).
So, end of this chapter will be studied by myself, and the other things were good.

Ch.4 preview

I was able to compare with hardware and software. In this chapter, writer talks about these theme. How can we apply hardware and software to our work place? How can our boss apply hardware and software to his work place? The basic is both items are support each other. So, We were not able to reputate which is better. We should focus on these at the same time.

The case study: It is about DELL company. I think one of the most important things in IS is "People." Recently, most companies' hardware and software technics are almost same, but services are different. That's why, I think Dell concentrates on not only hareware and software, but also service.

Case 1-2 Response

Group 2 presented about KNOLL company. They explained what this company is, and show us "Youtube" clip. So, we can understand well. And, they compared this company with other company. I like their presentation because they gave a lot of information, and used lots of video clips, so we were not able to distract. Also, they applied this company to IS. They said this company focus in the people. I agree this because the company consentrate on the design and survey things.

Our teacher said "Rivaly-new entrants, supplier, buyer, substituable." I think they are all important in the Information System part.

Case 1-2 Reading Response

The article is about Knoll company which is a leading manufacturer of office equipment. This company' success points are design, inerview with many offiers, and changing for each different period. Knoll ,especially, concenterates on the innovative and convenient design.
This is related with design management skill that I want to study.

*Group 1 presented what Getty Images are, their history is, their advantages are, and how they are related with IS. Actually, I didn't know about the Getty Images, but I was able to what Getty Images is. Besides, I learned how the photo company are related with Information System.

IS is all around major. It applys everywhere. In other word, people use IS to their business and work place. In the caea1-1, it talks abour GETTY IMAGE COMPANY. This company is beginning of sharing image website. It has good database system and easy to see and find images.
